Association for New Canadians & Saint John Newcomers Centre – GBA Plus
May 7, 2025

As part of the Enhancing National Sector Gender-Based Analysis (GBA) Plus Capacity Project, ARAISA partnered with two service provider organizations (SPOs) in the Atlantic region to test GBA Plus tools and resources developed by the national team.
ARAISA partnered with the Saint John Newcomers Centre (NB) and the Association for New Canadians (NL). In addition to piloting and testing tools and resources, each SPO also undertook initiatives within their respective organizations to enhance their GBA Plus capacity.
The Association for New Canadians (ANC), with the support of a volunteer focus group, undertook a comprehensive GBA Plus review of their volunteer Community Connections program. This process resulted in the creation of several valuable GBA Plus resources, including a video tutorial and a recommendations report for leadership.
The Saint John Newcomers Centre, with the help of a consultant, undertook an in-depth review of organizational policies to identify strengths and areas for improvement. A recommendations report was prepared, outlining key findings and suggestions for further action.
In these two infographics ANC and SJNC highlighted the benefits of the pilot program and various best practices:
